Uniform, Combat

Uniform, Combat - Screenshot (44)Following battle dress uniforms, this new pattern of field uniform was trialed in the early 1960s and was adopted for service in 1963 (known as “Combats”). Beginning in 1999, the OG (Olive green) combat was replaced by the CADPAT Combat uniform, Canada’s computer-generated digital camouflage pattern. The issue of Combat uniforms began in 1964. Beginning in 1972 Combat was also issued to the Reserves. Combats came in Tropical, Temperate, and Cold Weather.

Three patterns of black high-top Combat Boots were issued during the service life of Combat uniform. They were designated Marks I, II and III (see bottom right).

The designations “Shirt-Coat” and “Coat” appear on clothing labels (tags) and in official documentation and were used interchangeably, also a green undershirt.

Combat uniforms included two side pockets secured by buttoned flaps, one or two hip pockets, and a cargo pocket on the side of each thigh. The seats and knees were reinforced and waterproofed and there were ties at the cuffs. The Combat cap was mostly shapeless and soldiers quickly discovered ways of making it look more presentable.
