Senate – Cadet Support

Historically, 17 (Winnipeg) Service Battalion, and its predecessor Service Corps, sponsored a Service Battalion Cadet Corps, which existed for approximately 30 years from the early 1950s to the early 1980s. Additionally, 17 (Winnipeg) Service Battalion co-sponsored a Service Battalion Cadet Corps in Leaf Rapids, MB for several years in the early to mid-1980s.

The current (17 Service Company) Senate is loosely affiliated with the Winnipeg Grenadiers Cadet Corps (WGCC) which is located at Minto Armouries. The Senate appoints a Liaison Officer to the WGCC with the objective of providing financial or other support to the corps. The 17 Service Company also has an NCO who provides instruction and guidance to the Cadet Corps on a volunteer basis.

Currently, the Senate offers some limited financial support to the cadet corps to help defray costs for such things as cadet attendance at memorial events and for camping equipment. The Senate has also supported the Hubbell Awards, which provides 12 scholarships awards annually to serving cadets from army, air and sea cadet elements.
