Museum – Volunteers
The 38 Service Battalion Combat Service Support (CSS) Museum operates under the auspices of and is somewhat financially supported by The Service Battalion Senate, Inc.
Volunteers, including the five-person Museum Board Executive, run the CSS Museum. The 2nd Vice-Chair of the Museum Board is the Battalion Commanding Officer.
The CSS Museum is open on Tuesday afternoons year-round from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. unless it is a designated holiday or Minto Armouries is closed. It is also open Tuesday evening for visitors from September to June by appointment. Senate members participate in staffing the Museum during the evenings from September to June on a rotating basis, when required.
The CSS Museum is interested in recruiting volunteers to: help maintain and preserve the collection of artifacts, provide data entry, take and record inventory, develop and maintain archives, maintain a website, manage artifact trades and sales, and develop exhibits. Some computer, data entry, website management or exhibit creation skills would be helpful. No volunteers receive any remuneration.
While periodic volunteering is helpful, self-starting volunteers who can participate on a regular basis are desirable. Committed volunteers are also encouraged to participate in and to complete the Association of Manitoba Museums’ Certificate in Museum Practices program with financial sponsorship from The Service Battalion Senate, Inc.
Persons interested in volunteering may contact info@servicebattalion.ca or phone (204) 786-4378 to leave a message.
