In operations or exercises a command post (CP) is a location from which command is exercised. CP’s have different sizes and staffing depending on the level of the organization. A CP can be in a building, vehicle, or tent in the field. Some functions of a logistics CP are:
Controlling logistic operations (ops).
Receiving reports from subordinate units and preparing reports required by higher headquarters.
Planning logistics operations.
Integrating ongoing intelligence into current operations and plans.
Planning and synchronizing sustaining operations.
Assessing the overall progress of log ops.
A Service Battalion/CSS CP coordinates and controls the acquisition and delivery of such items as wire, equipment, ammunition, gas, oil and lubricants, water, food, vehicles as well as transportation dispatch vehicle recovery and repair, postal delivery, and may deploy a mobile laundry and bath during extended larger-scale field ops.
