The island of Hong Kong was considered defensible by some British and Canadian military leaders. The decision was made to send just over 2,000 Canadian soldiers to help defend Hong Kong from possible Japanese aggression. On 8 December 1941 the Japanese attacked. Many of these Canadians were killed or spent the next 44 months as prisoners of war.

Ceremonial swords from Thailand are made of teakwood. A ceremonial weapon is an object used for ceremonial purposes to display power or authority. They are often used in parades and as part of dress uniforms. Although they are descended from weapons used in actual combat, they are not normally used as such.

This second world war leather machete sheath (cover) marked “McBride 1943” was made by Legitimus Collins and Company 1945. Machetes (a broad, heavy knife) are a great choice for pruning and clearing woody vegetation.
