Wounded British empire soldiers wore a red convalescent tie during the first and second World Wars while recovering.
During the Great War (1WW) and earlier, wounded, convalescing soldiers wore a blue uniform with a white shirt and a red tie while in hospital. This practice continued up to and after the Second World War.
