Lighter, Vintage Fire Lite Tu-Tone

This artifact is a Japan-made, Fire Lite, “Tu Tone” cigarette lighter, with a black and white plastic finish. It is quite scarce, produced only a handful of times with differing color schemes – in red/black, red/white and this white/black specimen.

The lighter has several detailed product markings: The top of the thumb flint striker is stamped “Fire-Lite“, and it is also marked with a triangle and red “F” logo on both sides. The fitment is stamped “Fire-Lite” on one side and “Tu-Tone” on the opposite side. Finally, the bottom is etched “Fire-Lite Tu-Tone. Excellent Quality. Vapor Lock Patent No. 447845 121876 JAPAN”.

Some suggestions are the Fire-Lite is made from bakelite, but this appears to be late 1950s plastic.

The lighter is a typical “petrol” specimen, not butane, with a wick-flint lighting system, which is easy to fill and easy to maintain.
