A pilotka side cap is a foldable military cap with straight sides and a creased or hollow crown sloping to the back where it is parted. This Russian pilotka cap is known as a garrison cap or a flight cap, a wedge cap or a field service cap.
The pilotka is a symbol of the Soviet soldier of 2WW. It is made from cotton material in a green “khaki” color as a Russian military summer cap for soldiers. It comes with a detached Red star badge.
In Soviet heraldry, the red star symbolized the Red Army and military service, as opposed to the hammer and sickle, which symbolized peaceful labour. A red star, five-pointed and filled, is a symbol often historically associated with communist ideology, particularly in combination with the hammer and sickle. However, it is also used as a purely socialist symbol in the 21st century.
The star has been used on flags, state emblems, ornaments, and logos.
