Barracks, Carpiquet

The base was renamed Carpiquet Barracks for the French town in Normandy which Canadians liberated during the D-Day invasion.  Barracks, Carpiquet   - image1Equipment Depot (ED) No. 2 was first established by the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) in Winnipeg in 1935. The facility also served as a parts hub for Military District No. 10. During the Second World War, and implementation of the Commonwealth Air Training Plan (CATP), the base became the master supply centre for Air Training Command No. 2 (ATC). The base was re-designated Equipment Depot No. 7, which disbanded on 31 January 1946 and was salvaged in 1958.

Barracks, Carpiquet   - image2Barracks, Carpiquet   - image3John served with the Canadian Armed Forces as a Weapons Technician, RCEME, from December 12, 1947 – March 19, 1974. During his military career he served in the Korean War. He also served continually with the Canadian Armed Forces Primary Reserve (Land Reserve) from, April 10, 1975 until honorably released on October 23, 1982. 

Cfn. (Craftsman) Reilly J.F was stationed at Carpiquet Barracks in 1955. His canteen card can be seen in the museum. He was also a volunteer at the CSS Museum.
