To ensure enough rubber for military and vital civilian purposes, rationing of tires and rubber goods was started on January 5, 1942. The program ran through December 31, 1945.

The ability of a commander to position his force for a critical or shaping operation depends on his ability to move that force. Successful movement places troops and equipment at their destination at the proper time, ready for combat.
