Peacekeepers’ Memorial
On Friday, 9 Aug 24, approximately 60 veterans and interested persons, including Service Battalion Senate members, gathered to commemorate UN Peacekeeping and the 50th anniversary of the loss of nine Canadians killed during a routine supply mission from Ismailia, Egypt to Damascus, Syria when a CF Buffalo was shot down by Syrian anti-aircraft missiles. Several organizations laid wreaths in front of the Peacekeepers’ Memorial on Memorial Boulevard. A flag party of seven added dignity to the occasion. Charles Cameron, Chapter President of the LGen R.R. Crabbe Chapter of the Canadian Association of Veterans in United Nations Peacekeeping (CAVUNP) ably hosted the event.
