DESCRIPTION:On Sunday, 11 August 24, the Hong Kong Veterans Commemorative Association (HKVCA) held a ceremony at Brookside Cemetery and Bardal’s Funeral Home, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue, to acknowledge the 79th anniversary of VJ Day in 1945. The occasion is of special significance for the families and descendants of Winnipeg Grenadiers Hong Kong veterans who were incarcerated as prisoners of war for nearly four years after their capture in Hong Kong in 1941. The graveside part of the ceremony, which approximately 75 people attended, included a flag colour party and laying of wreaths at the Hong Kong veterans memorial. About 60 people attended the reception and speeches at Bardal’s afterward, including two Service Battalion Senate members, LCol (ret’d) Dale Watts and Capt (ret’d) Tim Klumper.\n\n			\n				\n			\n			\n				\n			\n			\n				\n			\n			\n				\n			\n		\n\n
